WordPress Tip of the Day #0004
There are certain things you can automate on your blog, meaning things can get done while you sleep. Things that will facilitate your life, just like that are things you can automate that will turn visitors away, so it’s really important to know what you should or shouldn’t automate. I have automated tasks on all my websites, but I monitor them very closely.
Things to make your life easier:
Blog Copyright Plug-in: This will automatically update the year in your footer to keep your copyright up to date.
WP-DB-Backup: This will automatically back up your database which contains your posts and pages.
WordPress Backup: This will automatically back up your images, your current theme and plug-ins.
Post to Twitter: This will automatically post an update on your twitter account with a link to your new post.
Publish to Facebook: This will automatically post an update on your facebook account with a link to your new post.
Things to stay away from:
I’m not posting this as a list as it’s not. Depending on your type of blog you might need to use what I’m saying to stay away from, but in most cases this is true. Complete automation of your blog will drive readers away, there are so many ways to get information now that people won’t tune in to your blog to read articles from other blogs, they are much more likely to keep coming back for original material. We have RSS readers for keeping up so we don’t need a site to summarize everything for us, we can do it ourselves now and much more custom to our own being than any one blog owner can.
