WordPress Tip of the Day #0003
Title: Setting Goals
Today’s tip is to help you set goals.
I think it’s important to set goals when working on any project, but for a successful blog it’s a must, the four most important goals are post quantities, post frequencies, visitors and revenue. Not necessarily in that order depending on the type of blog you are running.
Post Quantities & Frequencies:
It doesn’t matter if it’s 1 a day, 1 a week or 1 a month, but you should set what you want to do so that you don’t lose focus, or worse “lose” the blog. Lack of posting can make it die, where too much posting can lose readers and quality. It’s up to you to decide how much posting is right. For this site, I post one per day, sometimes two, but for my other sites often times it’s only 2-3 times a week and that works for those.
Visitors & Revenue:
Unless it’s a personal site, or a company intranet, the goal is usually to get people to see your blog and to read and enjoy it. When I first started MikeGreenFan.com I never expected to have over 150 daily unique visitors without any search engine optimization or marketing, so now I’m excited for next season, as I will be way more into it, and hope to reach over 200 daily unique visitors. I would always set my goals low to start, but increase them frequently. I included revenue in this section as it goes well with the amount of visitors. In a future tip of the day I will get into more details about turning those visits into revenue.
